12/24-hour Sebring (Florida, USA)

The Sebring circuit is a course for car races located in Sebring, Florida. The circuit occupies a part of the Hendricks Field airport, which is currently used for commercial and general aviation, but which during the Second World War acted as a training base for B-17 pilots. The famous 12-hour Sebring takes place on this circuit, one of the classic car races. The famous car racetrack in Sebring, on Saturday February 14, 2009, was transformed into the racecourse for international ultracycling, the 12/24-hour Sebring. The race, which started at 6:30 a.m. with three laps around the circuit (3.7 miles per lap), moved outside the car temple and onto the roads that run in the middle of the countryside and orange trees along an 89-mile course, before going back to the car circuit, where the cyclists raced until the next morning. Fabio started the race and was immediately in the lead, where he remained for the first seven hours. Almost at the end of the 11th hour, however, he was forced to withdraw due to the worsening of a bronchitis he had when he left Italy. Fabio covered the distance of 230.8 miles in 11 hr 47’07’’. P.S. Fabio thanks Andrea Tosolini’s family for their hospitality in Gainesville. Andrea, a great ultracycler, reached second in the same race and only for a hair he did not win it. Excellent Andrea.
